O.P.P. warn of possible teddy bear fundraising fraud

SD&G – SD&G O.P.P. are advising residents the police force is not asking for money over the phone for its community bear program.

The warning comes after residents, southwest of Hamilton, starting receiving a number of calls from residents saying they were being solicited.

The O.P.P. says the program is sponsored by insurance company Aviva Canada, which gives black and white teddy bears to traumatized children they met during events like vehicle collisions.

In fact, the O.P.P. doesn’t solicit for any of its community outreach programs.

If you’re contacted about donations, you’re asked to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8801 or through their website.
