
MALONE, New York – The new president of the PGA of America is born and raised not far from Cornwall.
Derek Sprague was elected 39th president yesterday as the Association’s 98th Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sprague is the PGA General Manager and Director of Golf at the Malone Golf Club, about 50 kilometers southeast of Cornwall.
He has held several leadership roles in the PGA since 1998, including secretary, vice president and interim president as of late October.
In Malone, Sprague also served for ten years on the local board of education.
He’s a 1998 graduate from James Madison University in Virginia, where he received a business administration degree in marketing and also competed on the university golf team.
Sprague is also a member of the Franklin County Tourism Advisory Committee.
Taking over for Sprague as vice president will be Paul Levy of Indian Wells, California, who served the past two years as secretary.
