SUV plows into deck

CORNWALL – A middle-aged woman miraculously escaped injury after her SUV went crashing into a raised deck on the side of a house in east-end Cornwall.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the 2100 block of Glen Brook Drive just before 2 p.m.

A champagne-coloured Hyundai Tucson was lodged under the deck, missing a gas main by a couple of feet. The supporting beam for the deck was a few inches from the driver’s compartment.

Neighbours in the immediate area didn’t recognize the woman, in her sixties, who was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Cornwall Police Const. Sherri Cameron says the crash is being treated as an accident as there is no criminal or medical issue pertaining to the case.

A towing company dislodged and took away the SUV around 2:20 p.m.
