MORRISBURG, Ont. – Provincial police have laid charges in connection with a crash last month where a car ended up in the St. Lawrence River.

A 2005 Cadillac went out of control on Lakeshore Dr. on Sep. 10 just before 11 p.m. and crashed through a guardrail and a private dock before plunging into the river. By the time emergency crews were on the scene the driver was gone.

Police were able to identify him a day later. On Monday, a 21-year-old South Dundas man was charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, careless driving and having open alcohol in a vehicle.

He will appear in a Cornwall court on Nov. 18 to answer to the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence Act charges.
