CORNWALL, Ont. – Plans for one of last Old Highway 2 properties, better known as Second Street West, will be unveiled this fall. Developer J.C. Godard’s company, Tri-Star Construction, cleaned up the Sunset Motel property at 1127 Second Street West in late June. Godard expects to unveil plans in September. Godard says all he could only commit to cleaning up the property this summer. “The property will sit (until then), I’m too busy,” Godard said. The development magnate is in the throes of putting up Knox City Center at the corner of Sydney and Second Streets.
Cornwall Planning Supervisor Ken Bedford says the property is zoned for “mixed use,” meaning a combination of residential and commercial development could be on the property. Given Godard’s track record, city planners are expecting something similar to Knox City Center but on a smaller scale.
The Sunset Motel was partially gutted by fire in October, 2012. According to city planners, the Sunset Motel and Quinn’s Inn are believed to be the last two existing businesses when Second Street West was Old Highway 2.
