Murder in Akwesasne; two facing charges

AKWESASNE – Two people are facing second-degree murder charges after a death on Cornwall Island over the weekend.

Akwesasne Mohawk Police issued a statement Monday afternoon saying they were called to a home on the territory around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Officers found the body of a man at the scene, identified as David “Tawit” Benson Hopps, 61, of Cornwall Island.

O.P.P. aided Akwesasne police in their investigation.

Akwesasne police arrested Rachel Fenn, 39, of Summerstown and Christopher Baldwin, 31, of Westport, a village north of Kingston on Monday.

Both are being held in custody until their appearance in Cornwall court Friday (Dec. 5).

An autopsy is being performed in Ottawa today (Monday).
