Have the 500 people who challenged the city’s proposed use of the Joe St.Denis/Bob Turner site, at the public meeting held on June 6, 2023 been forgotten or ignored? At a recent city council meeting regarding plans to forward action for a multisport outdoor recreation facility, on the grounds of the Benson Center, it was reported that interested community groups were canvassed.
Councillor Elaine MacDonald then introduced the subject of a report to be issued this spring about the possibility of affordable housing on the site of the old Bob Turner Center. It’s great that the sports groups were consulted, but what about the local community, who made it very clear that they want this site preserved as a park? Is the city going to consult the neighbours, were we forgotten, do we need another public meeting and petition, or is it a done deal and our opinion is irrelevant?
