CORNWALL – A recent child pornography investigation has resulted in the arrests of two Cornwall residents.

The details were revealed Wednesday as the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet outlined its work across Ontario for the month of October.

Jordan Sanderson-Brown, 30, and Benoit Bourguignon, 26, were arrested last month though one of the investigations and seizures happened earlier in the year.

In the case of Sanderson-Brown, police say they searched a home on Prince Arthur Street on Oct. 4 and seized “numerous electronic devices.” He was arrested on Oct. 19.

Sanderson-Brown is facing charges of possession of child pornography, making it available and accessing child porn. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday (Nov. 29).

For the Bourguignon case, a search was conducted on June 22 at a home on Water Street where electronic devices were also seized. He was arrested Oct. 27.

Bourguignon is charged with possession, making available and accessing child pornography. He will make his first court appearance on Dec. 13.

While the Provincial Strategy saw 121 children identified and referred to community agencies or were safeguarded, Cornwall police spokeswoman Stephanie MacRae told Cornwall Newswatch there are believed to be no local victims in these cases.

“There is no reason to believe there were any local victims in this investigation. That being said, police would like to remind families to discuss the importance of being safe while interacting online,” MacRae said in a statement to CNW.

Sanderson-Brown and Bourguignon were two of four people from Cornwall arrested in October.

Cornwall Newswatch has previously reported on the arrests of Doric Latreille and Jennifer Lalonde-Medeiros.

The only new details in the Latreille and Lalonde-Medeiros cases, released Wednesday, were the specific charges that were laid, that were not disclosed by the Ottawa Police Service, and their court details.

Latreille faces two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of making it available, counselling to commit a crime, two counts of luring, distribution of child porn and two counts of making sexually explicit material available to a child.

Latreille is out on bail under house arrest with a GPS bracelet. He’s expected to enter a plea during a court appearance Dec. 8.

Lalonde-Medeiros faces two counts of possession of child pornography. She is out on bail and under strict conditions from the court.

The Provincial Strategy saw 107 people charged and 121 children identified. There were 255 investigations, 168 search warrants and 1,032 electronic devices seized, just in the month of October.

The Cornwall Police Service is among 27 police agencies that are part of the program.

The Provincial Strategy has been in place since 2006. The Cornwall Police Service didn’t join the strategy until 2014 around the same time it set up the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE). MacRae said the CPS had been conducting child abuse and internet exploitation investigations “for many years” before ICE was established.
