Voters bank on treasurer for South Glengarry mayor

LANCASTER – Voters in South Glengarry have chosen a numbers man to head the township over the next four years.

Lachlan McDonald, who is currently the assistant treasurer in South Dundas and was the treasurer for South Glengarry, won Monday’s election with 2,358 votes.

He defeated incumbent Lyle Warden, who finished with 2,063 votes – a difference of 295 votes.

Martin Lang was elected deputy mayor with 3,201 votes over Jacqueline Milner with 1,124.

The three councillors are two incumbents, Stephanie Jaworski (3,214) and Sam McDonell (2,999) and a former councillor who is returning – Trevor Bougie (2,672).

Todd Lalonde received 2,154 votes.

Curtis Jordan’s campaign of being a local candidate and pushing for the trades in local public schools paid off. He got 4,306 votes versus Andrew Shanks with 2,178.

South Glengarry voter turnout was 41.8 per cent.
