CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is accused of taking deposits for roofing jobs and then never following through with the work.

The Cornwall Police Service says 30-year-old Kirk Beckstead is facing four counts of fraud under $5,000.

Police allege he “accepted a quantity of money in return for a service he indicated he would provide, but never provided the service.”

CPS spokeswoman Stephanie MacRae confirmed to Cornwall Newswatch that all the charges dealt with a roofing service.

Beckstead was arrested on Thursday (Sept. 8) during a traffic stop and was charged with one count of fraud and then re-arrested on Saturday (Sept. 10) where police tacked on three more charges.

All the cases are said to have happened between May and June this year.

A local trades website shows Beckstead operating as K.B. Roofing & Renovations and includes one-star reviews accused him of being a scam artist.

He will make his first court appearance Oct. 13.
