Masking to continue at SD&G hospitals

SD&G – Mandatory masking will continue for at least two regional hospitals in SD&G.

That’s despite Ontario’s top doctor, Dr. Kieran Moore, announcing requirements for masking inside hospitals and other indoor settings would expire Saturday (June 11).

The Cornwall Community Hospital and Winchester District Memorial Hospital both say they are acting on provincial guidance and the rule will stay in place indefinitely.

CCH Chief Executive Officer Jeanette Despatie said in a statement they have “a duty to care for and protect our patients, staff, and communities. We know masks are one of the most simple and effective tools to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a virus which could be devastating to our high-risk patients.”

People entering the hospital will have to wear a medical-grade mask, which will be provided by the hospitals.

Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria hasn’t said whether masking will continue.
