NORTH DUNDAS – Two people from Montreal are facing charges after trying to dupe a North Dundas resident into handing over cash as part of a scam.
SD&G OPP say a “presumed (court) bailiff” contacted the victim on May 25 and said a relative had been in a car crash where someone was injured and needed money for court.
The fake bailiff ordered the victim to withdraw money from their bank and made arrangements to pick it up at their home.
But that’s where police were waiting.
A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, both from Montreal, are facing fraud and conspiracy charges. The man faces an additional impersonation charge while the woman faces a weapons charge.
