CORNWALL – Hundreds of Hydro One customers across SD&G are without power this morning (Saturday) after a wind storm raked the region.

Wind gusts up to 80 kilometers an hour happened late yesterday afternoon and evening, at one point prompting bridge officials to restrict some traffic between Cornwall, Cornwall Island and Hogansburg, N.Y.

The storm also flattened trees and fences, sent objects flying and damaged some roofs.

Hydro One is reporting pockets of outages all across the area with the largest sections near Osnabruck Center (almost 300 customers), Riverside Heights, Mariatown (between Morrisburg and Iroquois), Bonville and Rosedale Terrace (almost 300 customers).

It says most of the damage has been caused by the high winds that have snapped power lines and broken poles as well as felled trees on power lines.

The estimated time of restoration is 6 p.m. according to the Hydro One outage map but that could change as crews assess and triage the damage.
