CORNWALL – A driver on Brookdale Avenue had their vehicle impounded Friday morning after being clocked at nearly double the posted speed limit.

Cornwall police say one of their officers clocked a car at 93 kilometers an hour in the 50 kilometer an hour zone just after 10 a.m.

The cruiser and the vehicle were stopped inside the Pizza Hut parking lot at Brookdale Avenue and Thirteenth Street.

Police spokeswoman Stephanie MacRae says the driver was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Stunt driving is defined as exceeding 40 kilometers an hour over the posted speed limit when that limit is 79 kilometers an hour or less.

The driver had their licence suspended for 30 days and vehicle impounded for two weeks.

Occupants of the car could be seen getting into another vehicle that picked them up before a tow truck came to haul the car away.
