LANCASTER – The mayor of South Glengarry has resigned.

Frank Prevost has been on a requested six month unpaid leave of absence since early June, shortly after he was charged with child luring as part of an OPP investigation.

That leave of absence was scheduled to end Saturday (Dec. 11).

Following an in-camera council meeting Monday night, the township announced that Prevost is resigning effective immediately.

Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. to discuss how to fill the mayor’s seat, either by appointment or a by-election.
