Here are the latest local, regional and national headlines on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for Tuesday, December 7, 2021:
- There have been 624,384 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across Ontario, an increase of 887 cases from the previous day (VAX: 373 unvaccinated, 24 partially vaccinated, 426 fully vaccinated, 64 unknown). There have been 605,918 people recovered from the virus while 10,027 have died. The number of Ontario people tested is 19,983,913 of which 9,859 have pending results.
- Canada’s coronavirus case total is 1,812,244. The country has 29,800 deaths from the virus – 14 in the Yukon, 12 in the Northwest Territories, four in Nunavut, 2,362 in British Columbia, 3,263 in Alberta, 931 in Saskatchewan, 1,334 in Manitoba, 10,027 in Ontario, 11,589 in Quebec, 136 in New Brunswick, 18 in Newfoundland & Labrador and 110 in Nova Scotia.
- The Eastern Ontario Health Unit added 24 cases over the weekend – four in Prescott-Russell, seven in SD&G and 13 in Cornwall – to bring the regional total Monday to 6,132 confirmed cases, of which 92 are active (11 fewer than Friday) and 5,909 are resolved (35 more than Friday). The number of deaths to date is 131. There are four people in hospital (one fewer than Friday) and three in the ICU (two more than Friday). There are no institutional outbreaks (one fewer than Friday). Testing increased 275 to 174,491. The breakdown of cases is: Prescott-Russell 2,296 cases (12 active), SD&G 1,438 cases (31 active), Cornwall 1,885 cases (30 active) and Akwesasne (ON/QC) 513 cases (19 active)(Akwesasne health department reported two new cases Monday: 584 total cases, 18 active, nine deaths to date).
- The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit added 24 cases over the weekend to bring the regional total Monday to 2,120 confirmed cases, of which 37 are active (12 more than Friday) and 2,018 are recovered (11 more than Friday). One more death has been added to bring the total to 65. There are three people in hospital (no change from Friday) and one in the ICU (one fewer than Friday). There are no active institutional outbreaks. The community case breakdown is: Lanark County East 455 cases (four active), Lanark County West 479 cases (two active), Leeds-Grenville Central 277 cases (13 active), Leeds-Grenville East 422 cases (eight active), Leeds-Grenville West 250 cases (nine active) and Unknown/Out of Region 30 cases (one active).
- Vaccines: Ontario 24,015,833 (+39,472, last update Dec. 6); EOHU 344,794 (last update Dec. 6, +2,017 from previous update Dec. 3); LGL 152,741 individuals living in LGL with first doses, 148,736 with second doses, 7,793 with third doses. (last update Nov. 28, +1,105 first doses, +817 second doses, +2,400 third doses since previous update Nov. 23).
