SD&G – The United Counties of SD&G has agreed to set aside $50,000 to finish off the digitization of various historic issues of SD&G newspapers.

County council also agreed this morning (Monday) to retain the company that’s been doing the work since 2019 – Image Advantage Solutions – to complete the work at a rate of 85 cents per page.

The request for a reserve was made last month by the project spokesman, Eric Duncan, to complete scanning of newspapers as they come in as well as photos of the Lost Villages.

The county has spent close over $181,000 on the SDG Newspaper and Photo Digitization Project that has turned 210,000 newsprint pages and 2,000 photos into searchable items on the web.

The project group believes there’s still about 40,000 pages and photos to digitize and upload.

A separate project to digitize City of Cornwall newspapers is in its infancy.
