What’s open and closed for Canada Day

SD&G – You will find many stores and services closed today (Thursday) for Canada Day and there won’t be many, if any, celebrations due to the pandemic.

The normal celebration in Lamoureux Park in Cornwall is cancelled this year. The closest known large fireworks display will be in Moose Creek at 10 p.m. tonight in Moose Creek Park, put on by the Moose Creek Recreation Association.

Municipal offices across SD&G, including Cornwall city hall, are closed.

Banks, many retail stores and malls, including Cornwall Square, are closed. Walmart is closed.

Most LCBO stores are closed, although some agency stores may be open. The Beer Stores are also closed.

Canada Post offices are closed and there’s no mail delivery.

There will be no garbage or recycling collection in Cornwall today. Normal Thursday pickup will be done on Friday morning and Friday’s garbage on Saturday. The city landfill will be closed on Friday as well.

Cornwall Transit is not running and the transit office is closed.

The Cornwall Public Library and all branches of the SD&G County Library are closed.

In South Stormont, garbage and recycling collection normally picked up on Thursday will be done on Friday, and Friday’s garbage and recycling on Saturday. Fireworks are permitted to be set off on your own property but the municipality is asking you to be respectful to neighbours.

In South Dundas, garbage and recycling will continue as usual. However, the landfill is closed.

For North Dundas, the Boyne Road Landfill site is closed. Curbside pickup and recycling will continue as usual.

In North Stormont, garbage and recycling continues as usual.

In North Glengarry, people who normally had garbage and recycling picked up Thursday, will be on Friday. The RARE plant is closed Friday.

In South Glengarry, garbage and recycling is pushed back one day. The North Lancaster landfill is closed today. Personal fireworks are allowed but the township asks you to do so safely.

Please note: Some of the above closures and openings may be subject to change without notice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
