CORNWALL — City fire crews are working on a fire in the landfill.
Firefighters were called around 2 p.m. to the dump on Cornwall Centre Road.
In an interview with Cornwall Newswatch, Fire Chief Jeff Weber says there is no machinery involved and the actual cause of the fire is unknown.
“It seems to be just the pile so we’re not really sure what the active cause of the fire was and we probably won’t actively investigate it because it is just a garbage pile,” Weber says.
He adds there are no toxic chemical control areas involved.
As of 3:30 p.m., it was still an active fire scene. Heavy machinery was being brought it to break up and pull apart the trash to completely put out the fire.
