LANCASTER – Four years in the making, South Glengarry will break ground this spring for its $1.3 million public works garage on Airport Road.

A Cornwall construction company will build the facility at 19628 Airport Road.

Grant Marion Construction on Marleau Avenue was the lowest of six bidders for the project at $1,179,000 and also scored highest in an evaluation by municipal staff, council heard last week while approving the tender.

Six companies bid for the project and Infrastructure GM Ewen MacDonald told council it was very competitive.

MacDonald says they are going to rely on Grant Marion to suggest any energy efficiencies, like radiant floor heating, that can be added to the building through change orders while still keeping within the bid price.

The $1.17 million does not include site work, such the well, septic tank and electrical work. That’s estimated to be another $250,000 but the municipality believes it can getting a better deal by tendering that work separately.

Construction should start in May and be completed by October or November.

The entire project is over budget by roughly $130,000.
