CORNWALL – City of Cornwall officials and the Cornwall Police Service were called to a community outdoor rink Wednesday afternoon about a gathering of hockey players.
Police spokesman Stephanie MacRae told Cornwall Newswatch they were called to “assist the City of Cornwall with a gathering at an outdoor rink” at Reg Campbell Park around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
A neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said it looked like city trucks and police were trying to shut down an outdoor hockey game at the park on Leitch Drive.
By the time officers arrived there were no violations seen under the Reopening Ontario Act, police said.
“I can confirm the CPS attended to ensure compliance under the Reopening Ontario Act due to the number of individuals present and to keep the peace while city employees were working at the risk,” MacRae added.
Under the Eastern Ontario Health Unit guidelines on outdoor rinks, “team sports or games must not be practiced or played within the amenity” and the maximum amount of skaters on a rink is 25.
