Ten new COVID-19 cases in EOHU area during second weekend surge

CORNWALL – For the second weekend in a row, the Eastern Ontario Health Unit area has experienced a double-digit surge in COVID-19 cases.

The EOHU reported Monday afternoon that there were 10 new infections – six in Prescott-Russell, three in SD&G and one in the City of Cornwall.

Last weekend, there were 15 cases between Friday and Monday.

Provincial data for the latest cases shows all but two are due to community spread. The remaining two are close contact with another infected person. Half of the cases are people younger than 40.

There are now 263 confirmed positive cases with 55 of them active and 196 resolved. The number of deaths remain at 12.

  • Prescott-Russell – 167 cases (33 active)
  • SD&G – 65 cases (19 active)
  • Cornwall – 31 cases (3 active)

Two people remain in hospital.

Testing increased by 1,123 to 56,911.
