CORNWALL – North American tea retailer, DavidsTea, has announced that 18 stores will remain open in Canada – and Cornwall isn’t one of them.

The Montreal-based company filed for bankruptcy protection from its creditors in both Canada and the U.S. earlier this month and closed a first batch of stores.

The company has 230 locations in both countries, including a location in the Cornwall Square.

It announced Thursday that it “made the difficult decision” to close 166 stores in Canada and all of its 42 U.S. locations.

There will be 18 of its best-performing locations left in Canada – the closest ones to Cornwall will be the Rideau Center in Ottawa or the Harden shopping center in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.

The Cornwall location opened in April 2017 on the second floor of the Water Street mall.

DavidsTea plans to transition the business to e-commerce.
