LANCASTER – South Glengarry has deferred the second installment of municipal taxes for local residents and businesses.

Council decided Monday night to amend its tax payment bylaw to move the second installment date from the end of May until the end of June.

It previously moved the first payment from the end of March 31 to the end of April 30.

The deferment will only be for taxes this year, meaning ratepayers who have taxes in arrears won’t be getting a break.

While giving relief to residents during this unprecedented time, the move will cost the township about $20,000.
