South Stormont lifts burn ban

LONG SAULT – The Township of South Stormont has lifted its burn ban.

Fire Chief Gilles Crepeau made the announcement this morning (Wednesday) that the ban, in place since March 19, has been lifted.

It was put in the place in order to keep firefighters from coming needlessly into close contact with residents during the coronavirus outbreak.

The township had partially lifted the ban late last week to allow burning on agricultural-zoned properties.

While the ban is lifted, South Stormont is reminding residents they need to abide by the burning bylaw and will take a “zero tolerance” stance for people breaking the law.
