South Stormont allows ag-based burning

(Newswatch Group/File)

LONG SAULT – South Stormont is allowing burning on agriculturally zoned properties in the township, starting today (Friday).

As part of its partial lifting of the fire ban, farmers will be allowed to burn, provided they contact Fire Chief Gilles Crepeau first for authorization.

They also have to have a $10 permit to burn.

As for residential property owners, the burn ban is still in effect but is being reviewed on a week-to-week basis.

South Glengarry is taking a similar approach to South Stormont, while North Glengarry completed lifted its burning ban Thursday.
