CORNWALL – A Cornwall man has been charged in connection to a couple of break-ins and a fire inside the former Gladstone Public School.
The Cornwall Police Service announced today (April 20) that 18-year-old Spencer Blanchette is charged with three counts of break and enter, possession of break-in instruments, arson, drug possession, motor vehicle theft and taking a vehicle without consent.
The abandoned school on McConnell Avenue was broken into between March 6 and March 7 where the building was damaged. It was broken into again on March 27 where Cornwall Fire Services had to attend to put out a fire in the gymnasium.
The man is also accused of taking a bicycle from a garage without permission and taking a vehicle that wasn’t his, earlier this month.
Blanchette was arrested Saturday and officers seized break-in tools and meth.
He is in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The former Gladstone Public School building was bought by a developer three years ago to be turned into a medical complex.
