Earthquake rattles western Quebec; felt in Cornwall

CORNWALL – An early morning earthquake jolted some people awake in western Quebec and Eastern Ontario.

Earthquakes Canada says the quake happened at 5:38 a.m. and had an initial measurement of 3.6. It was a shallow quake – five kilometers below the Earth’s surface – and was centered 59 kilometers east of Cornwall (near Valleyfield, Que.).

For residents in Cornwall, it was a slow rumble that lasted about 15-20 seconds and lightly rattled loose objects.

There are no reports of damage.
