CORNWALL – No one was injured Monday afternoon after a collision involving a school bus and a sport utility vehicle at a Brookdale Avenue intersection.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. at the intersection of Brookdale and Cobble Hill Road (one block south of Tollgate Road on the east side of Brookdale).
Cornwall Fire Service Capt. Bryan Ward told Cornwall Newswatch it was a low speed crash – the school bus was stopped at the intersection when the SUV slid into the front end of the bus while turning off Brookdale.
Cornwall experienced heavy snow flurries at the time which made for less than ideal driving conditions and reduced visibility.
The force of the crash set off both airbags in the Kia Sorento and did considerable front-end damage to the SUV but the couple was not hurt.
There were nine students on the bus, who were transferred to another First Student bus to be taken home.
The Cornwall Police Service is investigating.
The crash closed one northbound lane of Brookdale Avenue for emergency vehicles.
