MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The provincial police watchdog has terminated a case against the Cornwall Police Service involving a man arrested at the local hospital.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit was looking into a case last month where a 62-year-old man had reportedly sustained broken ribs while being arrested for refusing to leave the Cornwall hospital on Nov. 21, 2019.
But SIU Interim Director Joseph Martino says during a preliminary check, which included looking at the alleged victim’s medical records, it became “apparent that the man did not, in fact, sustain broken ribs as had been reported.”
Since there was no “serious injury” – the benchmark for an SIU investigation – the case has been closed.
