CORNWALL – The Cornwall Regional Task Force has nabbed 318 kilograms (700 pounds) of contraband tobacco, packed in a city storage locker.

The mini-storage unit was searched on Dec. 4 after the CRTF obtained a search warrant. While the seizure happened at the beginning of the month, details of the police action weren’t released until this week.

The fine cut tobacco, as well as a pickup truck, was seized.

A 50-year-old man from Akwesasne is facing charges under the Criminal Code and Excise Act. Charges under the Ontario Tobacco Tax Act are pending.
