CORNWALL – Around 300 people were met with the message of growth during the Team Cornwall Year in Review meeting Wednesday morning.

Cornwall Economic Development Division Manager Bob Peters said the city is experiencing “growth across all sectors” with $100 million in building permits this year.

The city is also on pace to have 116 housing units built this year – such places like the Bell Tower at Cotton Mill Lofts, the Riverfront Retirement Center, Riverdale Terrace and Belfort Estates.

The housing is also leading to population growth, as Peters pointed out stats from an economist that show Cornwall has growth by nine per cent between 2010-2017 compared to centers with populations of less than 100,000 that have growth at one per cent.

Peters presentation at the Galaxy Cinemas also talked about the flourishing tourism sector with $115,000 given out so far from the Tourism Development Fund for 16 tourism-related initiatives.

As for what’s next in 2020, Peters said the target is continued growth, embracing the e-commerce market and meeting the demand for local workers.
