Man, ex-girlfriend bear sprayed in Cornwall fight

CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is facing eight charges after a fight Thursday night where the victim and his ex-girlfriend was blasted with bear spray.

City police say the man trespassed on property of another man he knew, doused the victim and his ex-girlfriend with the bear spray and threatened to kill him before breaking a window.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance and single counts of making threats, trespassing, mischief and possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was held by police for a bail hearing.

Because it’s a domestic-related case, the name of the accused was not released.

Police would also not disclose the location in the city. “This is an instance where the incident occurred on a street with only a couple of residences on it, and as such, by indicating the name of the street, we would potentially be identifying the victims,” spokesman Stephanie MacRae said in an email to Cornwall Newswatch.

Both the victims declined medical attention, MacRae said.
