SOUTH MOUNTAIN – A school bus driver has been charged with careless driving after their bus went in the ditch, southwest of here, Tuesday afternoon.
Provincial police say the bus was northbound on Wallace Road around 4:40 p.m. when it left the roadway.
There were eight children on the bus – five were taken to hospital by paramedics. Police expect them to be okay.
An unnamed 52-year-old from Oxford Mills, Ont. is charged with careless driving causing bodily harm under the Highway Traffic Act. They were not hurt.
Under a new O.P.P. policy, the sex of people charged is not released. Also, the identities of people charged with Highway Traffic Act (non-criminal) offences are not released.
A conviction of careless driving causing bodily harm carries a minimum fine of $2,000 to a maximum of $50,000 or jail with a maximum of two years or a combination of both. A driver’s licence can be suspended for a maximum of five years.
