OTTAWA – Many in the Cornwall area are in shock Monday after the weekend death of runner Philip Everson.

Everson collapsed after crossing the finish line at the Canada Army Run on Sunday, Sept. 22. Despite efforts of paramedics and other medical staff, they were unable to revive him.

The 26-year-old Everson had just completed the half marathon – a 21.1 kilometer race – on a day that was warm and humid.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service had treated 15 people that day – mostly for heat exhaustion.

Phil is the son of Tom and Johneen Everson and has a younger sister, Rebecca.

He was a graduate of St. Lawrence Secondary School and was vice president of education for GooseChase Adventures – a company that produces an app for electronic-based scavenger hunts.
