CORNWALL – A man caught on a Canada-wide warrant after a kidnapping and shooting in Cornwall two years ago has been sent to prison.
Blaise Girard, 23, was sentenced earlier this year to five years in prison after he was found guilty of break-and-enter, kidnapping with a firearm, discharging a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon while under a court-ordered weapons ban and failing to keep the peace.
He was given credit for his time in pretrial custody.
Charges of aggravated assault and making threats were withdrawn by the Crown.
Girard is also banned from owning weapons for life and has submitted a DNA sample to the court.
Girard was captured by the Chateauguay Police Service in December 2017 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. A man in Cornwall had been taken forcefully from his York Street home and shot in the arm about two weeks prior to Girard’s capture.
The victim survived the shooting.
There were two co-accused in the case – Marcel Seip and Kaitlin Chaine. Chaine has another court appearance in October. The current status of Seip’s case is unknown.
