IROQUOIS – Construction is expected to start in September for a new building at the Iroquois campground.

South Dundas council and local business magnate John Ross were able to come to an agreement last week on a replacement building on Carmen Road.

Getting a new building has been over a year in the making after council decided last year at this time not to go ahead because the initial construction estimate was too high.

The building, which is about 46 feet wide and 60 feet long, is expected to cost no more than $700,000. That overall cost includes taking down the old building, a new parking lot, service hookups, landscaping and legal fees.

Under the deal, the municipality will contribute a maximum of $370,364 (original $350,000 budget plus demo costs) while Ross will cover the balance. He is also the designated project manager.

With the exception of the servery area, the new “Iroquois Airport and Campground Building” should be completed by the end of the year. The servery and equipment will be installed in May 2020.
