CORNWALL – With a talent shortage across Canada, employers are willing to take a bet on hiring “teachable candidates” and are more apt to offer full-time work.
That’s according to Manpower Canada, who is calling for a favourable hiring climate for Cornwall through the end of September.
The latest Employment Outlook Survey found that of the local businesses asked, 20 per cent were looking to hire, three per cent planned cutbacks and 77 per cent were staying with the status quo.
The overall net employment outlook is five per cent lower than the previous quarter but 11 per cent higher than the same period (July, August, September) last year.
The outlook is slightly better than the Canadian average.
“Employers in Canada continue to struggle with talent shortages and are increasingly interested in hiring teachable candidates. Talent shortages are also leading many companies to offer more full-time roles,” spokesman Darlene Minatel said.
