CORNWALL – A section of one of Cornwall’s major north-south streets will be closed for construction starting today (Monday, May 27).

Sydney Street from Second to Fourth Streets will be closed in order for construction workers to replace water and sewer pipes, sidewalks and curbs, add storm sewers and put down a new road bed.

The entire project is $1.8 million and Cornwall Gravel is doing the work.

In order to get to the Cornwall Public Library, you will have to enter via George Assaly Lane off Pitt Street and exit on Third Street East.

No construction timeline was released by the city but, given the magnitude of the work, it will likely take much, if not all of the 2019 construction season to finish.

This is part of a multi-phase project, which will see Sydney from Fourth to Sixth Streets done in 2020, Sixth to Eighth in 2021 and Eighth to Ninth in 2022.
