CORNWALL – Board members and volunteers with Bereaved Families of Ontario are hoping public donations will continue to keep its service in the Cornwall area.

Volunteer Matthew Marsolais set up a GoFundMe page for the organization last week.

It needs to raise $10,000 by May 31.

“We need to keep this place going. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me,” Marsolais wrote on the fundraising page.

After three decades in Cornwall, the local chapter of BFO announced on Facebook that with “heavy hearts” it would be closing its Montreal Road office by the end of May unless some “major sources of funding are found.”

BFO board member Elizabeth Gagnon confirmed to Cornwall Newswatch through Facebook Messenger that the operations could continue with the $10,000.

BFO provides services and support for people who have lost a loved one or family member.
