Highway 138 commuter lots being built

TORONTO – The provincial government has announced that it will be starting the first upgrades to Highway 138.

Ontario Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek announced $195 million in highway rebuilding and restoration projects in Eastern Ontario. The region was part of a $1.3 billion Ontario-wide announcement to rebuild or restore 123 highway projects.

In our area, it will include building two commuter lots on Highway 138 in the section of road from Cornwall to St. Andrews West.

The two carpool lots – one at Cornwall Centre Road and the other one kilometer north of St. Andrews West – were shown to Cornwall City Council in December 2016.

At that time, there are also other proposed plans, like intersection improvements at nine locations and a new roundabout at Headline Road, but those were not in today’s announcement.

As part of today’s funding package, these projects were announced, but have already been advertised or awarded to contractors:

  • Rehabilitation of the Post Road overpass on Highway 401 west of Cornwall
  • Flagg Road and County Road 31 underpass replacements on Highway 401 in the Morrisburg area
  • Rehabilitation of Highway 401 at County Road 34 from the Raisin River to Finney Creek near Lancaster
