AKWESASNE – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s elections office says no one appealed the results of a recent by-election for a district chief position representing Cornwall Island.

That means Dennis Chaussi can take his seat again at the band council after facing a community petition to remove him.

The by-election was held Saturday, Dec. 22. The MCA official tabulations as of Thursday (Dec. 28) afternoon – the deadline for any appeal – show the vote totals didn’t change.

Chaussi was re-elected with 54 votes. His closest challenger, Vanessa Lee Adams, had 49 votes and Allie Oakes McCumber had 26 votes. There were nine people running.
