CORNWALL – A police search of a field on the north edge of Sixth Street East near Adolphus Street was part of a sexual assault investigation, city police revealed Tuesday.
In making the revelation, authorities are also trying to calm fears in the community, saying they “believe this to be an isolated incident.”
A large part of the field was roped off with police tape on Sunday (Nov. 11) from approximately 3 p.m. until well after sunset. Officers in an SUV shone lights into a stand of trees and brush on the property.
The investigation into the alleged assault is still in the early stages, police added.
They have not provided any description of a victim or whether they are looking for a perpetrator.
The case is being handled by the Cornwall Police Service Criminal Investigations Division.
