SOUTH STORMONT – Jim Bancroft announced Monday (Oct. 1), he is withdrawing from the race for English Public school board trustee for Stormont and Glengarry Counties.

Bancroft, 73, cited “some ongoing health issues,” which started the first week of August.

While his name will still be on the ballot, the South Stormont mayor says making the early announcement will “hopefully give all residents the opportunity to review the information on the other candidates…before casting your ballot.”

John Danaher of Bainsville and Marshall Wilson of Alexandria are the remaining candidates.

“My decision did not come easily,” Bancroft said in a statement. “However, after discussing with my family and a few close friends, I feel the residents deserve a trustee that will be able to provide the time and energy to meet your expectations.”

Election Day is Oct. 22.
