CORNWALL – An Olympic swimmer and survivor of childhood sexual abuse will tell her story next month at the Children’s Treatment Center Celebrity Walk and Breakfast.

Margaret Hoelzer, 35, is originally from Alabama and now lives in Seattle, Wash. She won bronze and two silvers with the U.S. Olympic team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

As a child, she was the victim of sexual assault by her friend’s father over two years, starting when she was five years old. She didn’t tell anyone about the assaults until she was 11.

Hoelzer is now an advocate for the U.S. National Children’s Advocacy Center.

She will speak at the Cornwall Civic Complex on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the breakfast, which starts at 6 a.m. Her speak starts at 7:15 a.m.

Breakfast tickets are available through the center at 613-933-4400.
