CORNWALL – City firefighters were busy over the weekend with a pair of house fires on Saturday.

Firefighters were called to a home on Balmoral Avenue just before 2 a.m. for a dishwasher on fire. The 10 firefighters who arrived on scene were able to contain the flames to the kitchen.

Then, around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, 11 firefighters were at 617 Eleventh Street East for a fire in the attic of a home.

“Firefighters opened the roof and we’re able to extinguish it without further extensions, though the house suffered smoke damage,” Fire Chief Pierre Voisine told Cornwall Newswatch.

It was an electrical fault that started the fire, investigators determined.

In both cases, no one was injured.
