CORNWALL – There’s labour peace for a handful of senior police officers and administrators with the Cornwall Community Police Service.
The Cornwall Police Services Board and the Cornwall Police Senior Officers Association reached a new collective agreement.
The contract was reached after the two sides met a couple of times over the winter and spring. It covers one police inspector and six senior civilian managers within the police department.
Their last collective agreement expired in December 2017.
The four year deal has wage increases of 1.85 per cent per year and cleans up “some minor wording changes” and “language issues” and “minor benefit issues,” Chief Designate Danny Aikman told Cornwall Newswatch.
Because the job descriptions and responsibilities of the seven individuals are so different, there is no benchmark pay grid to reference. All these positions deal with confidential matters for the department, so that’s why they’re lumped together under one collective group, Aikman explained.
While he wasn’t involved in the negotiations directly, Aikman believed the discussions, which finished in April, were “very cordial and amiable.” It was some logistical problems that delayed getting the agreement finalized until this month at the police services board meeting.
This new deal expires at the end of 2021.
The other contract with the Cornwall Police Association (CPA) covering the balance of officers – roughly 130 people – doesn’t expire until the end of 2020.
