CORNWALL – A women’s group, bringing investment to the community, is moving ahead with its initiative in Cornwall.

In an update to a story Cornwall Newswatch first told you about in 2016, two local business women – Donna Chisholm-Forget and Tracey Veinotte – wanted to start a Cornwall chapter called “100 Women Who Care About Cornwall & Area.”

That dream will come alive tonight (June 14) as the group will hold its first event at the Best Western on Vincent Massey Drive at 7 p.m.

“Finally, we have surpassed our goal of 100 registrants,” said Veinotte, in an email to Cornwall Newswatch.

The premise is having at least 100 women invest $100 and an hour of their time, resulting in $10,000 invested in the community. Applications from charities come to the group and then the winning charity or charities is chosen by secret ballot.

The 100 Women Who Care About South Dundas met at the Upper Canada Playhouse last month where Dundas County Hospice received $10,000, First Responders United got $3,350 and the Morrisburg Public School Playground Fund received $3,350.

There are other 100 Women groups in the 1000 Islands, Kingston and Ottawa.
