CORNWALL – An eatery at the Cornwall Square food court abruptly shut down Monday.

An Ontario bailiff was at the New York Fries location in the mall food court this morning.

Bailiffs are hired to repossess or seize property or to evict commercial tenants, according to Consumer Protection Ontario.

“This development with New York Fries was a Cara Operations decision,” Cornwall Square Retail Manager Karen Burns told Cornwall Newswatch.

On the stainless steel counter, a sign read “All delicious things must come to an end. This NYF location is now closed. Thank you for your patronage.” A woman was working in the back sorting equipment.

New York Fries has seven locations in Ottawa and one in Kingston, according to its website, which has already deleted the Cornwall store.

A call to Cara Operations – which has other local brands such as East Side Mario’s, Harvey’s and St-Hubert – was not immediately returned.

Burns says the mall is working on replacements for the three available food court spaces.
