CUPE membership rejects City’s final offer

CORNWALL – A strike by CUPE’s four locals will drag on.

The union announced tonight (Monday) that it’s membership voted 92.5 per cent to reject the city’s last offer.

The four locals represent the city’s so-called inside and outside workers, plus employees with the Cornwall Public Library and the Cornwall-SDG Paramedic Services.

In a statement, CUPE said it used “the documents submitted by the employer to the Ministry of Labour last week.”

The statement seems to infer a ministry supervised vote by the city in a couple of weeks would be futile.

The union says it’s open to go back to the bargaining table as early as tomorrow (June 5) should the City want to exercise that option.
